Strong demand ahead of the Eid Festival has seen Texel sired stock outstrip the competition in many markets across the country, leading the trade for both price and volume.
At Lanark, Texel sired new season lambs hit a high of 476p/kg, with hoggets up to 460p/kg and cull ewes selling at up to £290/head, reflecting the quality on offer.
Meanwhile, at United Auctions, Stirling, new season lambs met a flying trade, with Texels peaking at 572p/kg and hoggets up to 548p/kg. Here, cull ewes hit £340.
South of the border at Carlisle, trade saw a high of 510p/kg for new season lambs, with hoggs up to 487p/kg and cull ewes reaching £283.
This strong trade was reflected in the confidence shown by those buying couples at the same centre, with Texel cross hoggs with lambs at foot selling to a top of £232/life.
Couple trade was a similar story at Welshpool, with Texel ewes with single lambs at foot peaking at a healthy £300/life, while those with twins reached £222/life and hoggs with singles at foot realised £240/life.
This was again off the back of a strong trade for Texel-sired culls which hit a top of £300/head.
And, across the water at Ballymena, new season lambs were again a strong trade, with Texels hitting a top call of 482p/kg, while hoggets sold to 406p/kg and cull ewes reached £290/head.
