Wydden flocks leads Dyfed Club virtual show

Martin Millar turned to Eldon Thomas of the Wydden flock for his champion in the 2021 Dyfed Club Virtual Show.

Taking the top spot was Mr Thomas’ winner from the aged ewe class, a Hilltop ewe by Sportsman’s Admiral II out of a Strathbogie Terminator dam, herself going back to a Knock bred ewe from the Insch dispersal.

James Amphlett and Ellie Owens followed up a strong performance in the flock competition with three firsts from their Topwood flock, from three entries.

Their reserve champion was the ewe lamb by the fist placed ram and champion stock ram from the flock competition, Rhaeadr Cracker. He is by Alabama out of a Viscious Sid daughter.

He was the male champion pick of our Judge Martin Millar. He also sired the first prize ram lamb.

Runner up to Cracker was last year’s champion Karven Class Act for Steve and Kara Lewis, the judge’s pick for reserve male champion. Another homebred tup was third for Wayne Phillips with Townswood Braveheart.

Tom Vaughan entered two homebred shearling tups and took the two top spots. In first was Bertholey Ddraig Goch, his Strathbogie Ya Belter son, followed by a son of last year’s prize winner Auldhouseburn Cobra.

Second in the ram lambs was Karven with a son of Midlock Dizzee Rascal, followed by Wydden’s lamb by Millars Dalton.

Auldhouseburn blood also featured in the second prize aged ewe for Wydden. This time a ewe by Auldhouseburn Billy the Kid out of an Eden Valley Whizz Kid daughter. In third was Wayne Philips with a Strathbogie bred ewe by Knap Blazing Star.

In the gimmers Wydden’s Billy the Kid daughter took top spot, followed by one from the homebred tup Wydden Boom. Third went to John and Gloria Davies, Aman, with a daughter of Knap Angus Ogg.

In the ewe lambs the runner up to the Topwood ewe lamb was John and Gloria Davies, Aman’ with a Hope Valley C the stars daughter out of a Knap Angus Ogg ewe. In third was a sharp ewe lamb from first time exhibitor Aaron Hemmings, Sannan. She is by Tophill Cassidy out of a Clinterty Yogi Bear ewe.
