Texel cross replacement ewes in demand

Texel cross breeding sheep have been in hot demand over the last few weeks as flocks look to source quality replacements ahead of the breeding season.

Sales across the UK have seen premium prices paid for Texel cross gimmers, with United Auction’s sale at Stirling recently peaking at £520/head for Texel cross gimmers, with other pens at £250, £230 and £210.

One-crop ewes at the same centre were also a ready trade, selling to £176/head, with others at £168.

Meanwhile, at Longtown Texel cross gimmers sold to a top of £260/head three times, with further pens at £250/head and £245/head thrice.

And Skipton’s second sale of Continental cross gimmers peaked at £340/head for Texel crosses, with more at £330.

Further south at Welshpool, Texel cross gimmers sold to a high of £228 and £225, with others at £220 and £210.
