Sportmans gimmer leads J36 sale at 6000gns

A gimmer from the Sportmans flock of Messrs Boden and Davies led the trade at the North West Texel Club’s sale, J36, on Sunday when selling for 6000gns.

Topping the trade was BGS2306460, a Rhaeadr First Choice daughter out of a Procters-bred dam by Sportsmans Batman. This one, which had been first in the pre-sale show, combined top priced breeding, with his sire having cost 160,000gns and his dam 46,000gns. She sold to Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn.

Following her at 2300gns was one from David Houghton, Tophill, HPH2301972. This Garngour Frontier daughter is out of am Usk Vale dam by Hexel Born To Be Wild and sold to Tom Ayrton, Ayrtons.

Then came a 1650gns sale for a Holtridge gimmer from David Dunlop and family. This was DJJ2300294, an Auldhouseburn Freaky Friday daughter out of a dam by Garngour Craftsman. She sold to R and E Ladds for the Benson Hall flock.

And at 1500gns was CFT2301146 from Andrew Clark, Teiglum. She’s a Knock Eastwood daughter out of a dam by Craighead Crusader and sold to Ross Campbell for the Cree Valley flock. 

Males

Alan Blackwood’s ram lamb Auldhouseburn Hocus Pocus worked his magic when he took the day’s top call in the males of 4500gns. Sired by the 16,000gns Scholars Governor and out of a dam by Seaforde Empire King, this one had been champion in the pre-sale show and was knocked down in a two-way split to David and Tom Bradley-Farmer, Meonside and Nick Woodmass, Harene.

Second best of the males at 2800gns was Tillycairn Highlander from David McKerrow Jnr, with this one being a Clanfield Golden son out of a dam by Ettrick Earthquake. He sold to D A and M J Pedley, Kirby Stephen.

Following that at 2400gns was Teiglum Handyman from Andrew Clark, with this one being a Forkins Fancy son out of a dam by Seaforde Egyptian Warrior and has a top 10% texelplus index. Buying this one were J R Frankland, Settle and Chris Cornthwaite’s Stumpcross flock, Clitheroe.

A pair then sold at 2200gns, with the first being Auldhouseburn Hoodlum, a Glenside Gizmo son out of a Seaforde-bred dam by Sportsmans Cannon Ball. This one was the pick of A A B and C Allan, Cauldcoats.

Then came a pair of shearling rams at 2000gns, both from the Laird family’s Cambwell flock. First to go was Cambwell Ghost, a Cambwell Exocet son out of a dam by Cressage Blockbuster, with this one finding a new home with W W and D Boow, Millburn.

The second was Cambwell Gregor, a Deveronvale Fastrac son out of a Crailloch-bred dam by Gangour Cloud Nine. He was taken by A and F Claridge, Buckinghamshire.

Averages; 79 gimmers £726.01, seven ewe lambs £447, six ewes £393.75, 92 ram lambs £835.33, 27 shearling rams £812.78 (North West Auctions).
