Performance pays at Rugley sale

Performance genetics were in high demand at the final retiral sale for Alan and Lorna Jackson’s Rugley flock, with prices peaking at 4200gns.

Leading the way was JER1909287, an Allanfauld Archduke daughter out of a dam by Beeford Warrior and in-lamb to the 9000gns Mullan Chancellor. She sold with an index in the top 5% of the breed and was bought by Esmor Evans, Mold.

Then at 2200gns was JER1909348, a daughter of homebred sire Rugley Best Ever and out of a dam by Roxburgh Shotgun Willie. She sold with an index in the top 10% of the breed and again in lamb to Chancellor. This one found a new home with John Elliot, Roxburgh.

The same buyer then paid 2000gns for JER1909283, another by Best Ever and this time out of a Hightecs Yorick daughter. She sold carrying to Corriecravie Benchmark and with an index in the top 1% of the breed.

Close behind at 1800gns was JER1909267, a Best Ever daughter out of a dam by Rugley Von Urs and in-lamb to Benchmark. With an index in the top 1% of the breed she was the pick of Alasdair Beaton, Falkirk.

And also heading back in the same trailer was the next at 1600gns, JER1909397. She’s by Best Ever and out of a Hightecs Yorick daughter and has an index in the top 1% of the breed. She was sold carrying twins to Mullan Chancellor.

Making 1500gns and finding a new home in Lancashire with Jennifer Aiken was JER1909350. This Best Ever daughter is out of a dam by Hightecs Yorick and was sold in-lamb to Mullan Chancellor.

A 1200gns bid then secured JER1909362, with this one being a Rugley Bonzo daughter out of a dam by Rugley Wilfred and with an index in the top 1% of the breed. She sold carrying to Mullan Chancellor and was knocked down to Matthew Prince and family, Derbyshire.

Handbank 

Best of the sale for the consignment from the Payne family’s Handbank flock was a 550gns call for PRH1900925, a Cambwell Arnie daughter out of a dam by Stonebridge Stevie’s Wonder and in-lamb to Stonebridge Charlie. She sold to William Moseley, Sheffield.

Averages; Rugley three aged ewes £682.50, 72 gimmers £875.73; Handbank 10 gimmers £456.75, nine ewe lambs £207.66 (Harrison and Hetherington).
