Collielaw Gilbert leads Scottish Club Sale at 2800gns

A strong commercial demand ensured a successful Scottish Texel Club sale at Lanark, with averages up for both shearlings and ram lambs and more sold on the year.

Leading the trade at 2800gns was the pre-sale show champion, Collielaw Gilbert, an Ettrick Eagerbeaver son from Robert, Margaret and Iain Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke.

Out of a homebred ewe by Milestonehill Aztec, this one made up part of the 1st prize pair of lambs at Biggar Show in July. He sold in a two-way split to Iain Minto, Townhead, Dolphinton and James Orr, Wester Walston, Carnwath.

The Struthers sold another at 2200gns from Iain’s own Craigend flock. This was Craigend Golden Eye, another Eagerbeaver son, out of a ewe by Fordafourie Amalert which went to W J Clark and Son, Upper Bolton, Haddington.

Making the same money was Knap George Ezra, a Haddo Fabio son from Robert Cockburn, Hill of Errol. Out of a daughter of Sportsmans Deal Breaker, he went to D W Roberts, Fronhill, St Asaph.

Next best, at 1900gns was the reserve champion, Teiglum Gaffer, from Andrew Clark’s flock at Blackhill, Carluke. Sired by Cosyn Texels Formula One, he went to R S T and R A Morgan, Woodend Hall, Whitchurch.

Knap Gurka from Robert Cockburn then made 1600gns, with this Haddo Falcon son selling to R E Harrison, Tailbert, Penrith.

David Gray sold Tima Gold Digger at 1600gns to the Douganhill flock at Palnackie, Castle Douglas. He’s another by Cosyn Texels Formula One.

Another from Andrew Clark, Teiglum Goldberg, a Tullnasoo Funtime son, made 1400gns to T and R Harper, Southmains, Biggar.

Also at 1400gns, Harry Griffies, Carmichael, Biggar, sold Cairngryffe G Force, by Rhaeadr Fire Power, to Fraser Dandie, Hatton of Carse, Forfar

The sale also included dispersals from the Craighead, Crailloch, Rusha, Greenbank, Westwoodlane and Auchencorth flocks, and a batch of gimmers from Knockem. Trade was steady, with plenty of buyers looking for females.

Prices peaked at 7000gns, for a gimmer from Alan Cullen’s Craighead flock, a daughter of Usk Vale Crackerjack, out of a ewe by Fordafourie Amalert, which sold to Andrew Clark, Teiglum, buying jointly with Stuart Barclay, Harestone.
