Ballyhivistock Texels hit 3600gns

The dispersal of the adult portion of Robert and Christine Calvin’s Ballyhivistock flock of Texels hit a high of 3600gns for an Irish gimmer bred in the Hillcrest flock and purchased at last year’s Blessington sale.

Sale leader was YZI2302385, a Stonepark Ferrari daughter out of a dam by Sportsmans Cannon Ball. Sold in aid of MacMillan Cancer, this gimmer was bought by Stephen Etherson, Ballymoney, for the Killans flock.

Second best at 2800gns was a two-crop ewe bred in the Mullan flock. This was HBN2102463, a Sportsmans Batman daughter out of a dam by Deveronvale Aftershock. She found a new home with Jonny Cubitt’s Drumcon flock, Ballymena.

Following her at 2100gns was TCY2001043, a three-crop ewe bred in the Curley flock. She’s. a Garngour Chancer daughter out of a dam by Milnbank Womaniser and sold back to her breeder, John Trimble.

Two then made 1900gns, with the first of these being another Curley-bred female, this time a gimmer in the form of TCY2301318. She’s by Auldhouseburn Fandabidozi and out of a Teiglum Braveheart daughter. This one was the pick of Philip Whyte, Portglenone, for the Innisrush flock.

And the other at this level was a Ballynahone-bred gimmer, HBR2301897. Sired by Auldhouseburn Fe Fi Fo Fum and out of a dam by Procters Cocktail, she was knocked down to P D Morris, Crilly.

Next best at 1600gns was one-crop ewe SCY2201753. This one is by the homebred sire Ballyhivistock Dan Dare and out of a dam by Mullan Aguero and headed away with Brian Williamson for the Farmhill flock, Omagh.

A pair then followed that at 1500gns, with the first being a Largy-bred one-crop ewe ELL2202890. Sired by Sportsmans Cannon Ball and out of a Knap Abracadabra-sired dam, her full sisters have sold to a high of 4000gns. Buying this one was L Dillon, Co Wexford.

The other at this level was another of the gimmers, SCY2301892. This daughter of Ballyhivistock Dan Dare is a full sister to the 1600gns one-crop ewe SCY2201753 and sold to Christian Wilson, Co Donegal.
