Texels were a major draw at the South West NSA Ram Sale, leading the day’s trade with the top four prices of the sale and a 94% clearance in the shearling rams.
Taking the day’s top call and setting a new sale record at 5000gns were Nick and Sarah Pile, Clayhill, with their shearling ram Clayhill Iyogun, a Granite Untouchable son out of a dam by the homebred Clayhill Boomerang. He sold with top 1% indexes and found a new home with R and M F Rottenbury, Taunton.
Second best at 3000gns was the champion from the pre-sale show from Henry Summerhayes, Holywell. This was another shearling, Holywell It’s Show Time. He’s by Strathbogie Epic and out of a dam by Craig Douglas Extra Special. He was knocked down to Georgie Helyer for the Langford flock.
Following him at 2200gns was one from Tom Mounce, Wooladon Ivor. This pen leader is by Loosebeare Golden and out of a dam by Loosebeare Destroyer. This one headed to Cornwall with the Neale family, Nealeford.
The Quick family then earned 2100gns for Loosebeare Irresistible, a son of the homebred Loosebeare Fantastic and out of a dam by Sportsmans Bulletproof. He was the pick of A Tackley and Sons, Bishop, Bucks.
Another from the Pile family then made 1600gns, with this being Clayhill Ikitau, a son of the homebred Claybill Gorgonzola out of a dam by Granite Untouchable. He again sold with top 1% figures and was taken by the Burrough family for the Godworthy flock.
Females
A brace of 1250gns calls were the highlight of the female trade, with both of these sales coming for dimmers from Henry Sumerhayes’ Holyford flock. First at this level was SQH2500050, a Glenside Forever II daughter out of a dam by Tophill Wall St. She sold to Christopher Cornthwaite for the Stumpcross flock.
The same buyer then paid the same money for SQH2500049, a full ET sister to his first purchase.
