Texels at the top of Winter Fairs

Texels have been at the top end of the results at recent major primestock shows, taking the supreme championship at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair and the reserve supreme titles at both the English Winter Fair and LiveScot.

Lifting the championship at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair were a pair of 47kg lambs from Tirion Griffiths, Denbigh, with these going on to sell for £1500/head.

The English Winter Fair saw the reserve supreme championship go to Robert Garth and Sarah Priestley, with a pair which had a combined weight of 91kg. These were homebred on both sides.

Then at LiveScot, it was the Hall family, Dalston, which took the reserve overall title, with these lambs by a Woodies sire weighing in at 51kg apiece, these went on to sell for £310/head.

And, at the beginning of the winter season, the Hall family were triumphant at Agri-Expo, Carlisle, when taking the supreme championship with a pair of Texel-sired lambs by a Woodies tup which tipped the scales at 48kg each.

And at the Royal Ulster Beef and Lamb Championships, Balmoral Park, the reserve supreme award fell to a pair of Texels from Stewart Ferris, with these being by Connemara Hilltop. They later sold for a new centre record of £820 apiece.
