The Society’s Social Weekend and AGM due to take place at Chester next weekend, 15th-17th November, will be the climax of the Society’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations which have taken place this year.
Headlined by the 50th Anniversary Ball on Saturday 16th, the weekend kicks off with a 1970s themed night on Friday 15th, with the Society AGM taking place on Saturday morning.
The Anniversary Ball will feature a special 50th Anniversary awards ceremony, headlined by the announcement of the results of the Society’s 50th Anniversary National Flock Competition.
Society chief executive John Yates said it was set to be a superb weekend of celebration, giving chance to reflect on the success enjoyed by the Society and the Texel breed over the last 50 years, while also looking forward to what can be achieved in future.
The celebratory tone was set earlier in the year with the outstanding success of the Club Champions day and social event which was followed by the Society’s Textravaganza National Show. Both of which drew members together in a spirit of celebration and competition.

Members have also been celebrating and socialising at the Society’s feature shows across the UK and the Society’s National Sales, taking time to enjoy friendship and camaraderie for which the breed is renowned.

The final element in the Society’s 50th Anniversary celebrations is the release of ‘The History of The British Texel Sheep Society’ a celebratory book showcasing the Society and the breed since the foundation of the Society in 1974.

This 190-page hardback publication leads readers through the significant milestones of the last 50 years in Texels, drawing on breeders’ reflections and archive photography to illustrate the Society’s rich and varied history.
To order your copy of this unique publication at an early bird discounted price of £25 (plus P&P) go to the Society website.
The book is complimented by a series of four podcasts looking back over the Society’s first 50 years which can also be found on the Society website.
