The Morgan family’s Blaencar flock was victorious in the recent South Wales Texel Club’s flock competition, taking the champion flock title having won both the medium flock class and the gimmer class under judge Alan Jackson, Rugley.
Standing reserve was the Millend flock of the Watkins family, with this flock having been top of the large flock class and also taking first and third in the stock ram class.
Commenting on his weekend of judging Mr Jackson said: “I would like to thank the members for asking me to Judge the Competition, it is a great honour and privilege to be asked and I have enjoyed meeting you all.
“Despite social distancing regulations it was lovely to see your farms and thankyou to everyone who provided refreshments in gardens, yards and sheds, everything was very welcome due to the extreme heat.
“Thanks to all the breeders who had sheep penned or housed it helped show your sheep and allowed us to save time on our journey.
“A special thanks to Zoe for all her organising and Owen for his driving and navigating skills. We arrived everywhere on schedule covering 500 miles on the two days. I especially enjoyed his company and local knowledge.
“We saw a wonderful show of sheep in all the flocks, close to the sea, 1000ft in the hills, large flocks to small. All the classes were close and many good sheep have not been placed, as well as being lovely to see such a good show of sheep it did mean that many of the decisions were very close. Several good flocks have not been placed.
“The gimmer class was especially close with all flocks having a very good field of sheep. Thanks very much for a great weekend.”
