Texel sired prime lambs and cull ewes remain in peak demand across the country as the prime sheep trade shows little sign of easing as the end of the year draws near.
At Wooler Texel-sired lambs hit a high of 397p/kg, with cull ewes peaking at £191 and £180, while across the other side of the country at Carlisle Texel lambs sold to 409.8p/kg more than 110p/kg above the overall SQQ on the day. Ewes here sold to £178.
Further north at Stirling Texel cross lambs sold to 333p/kg well ahead of the market average of 269.26p/kg, with cull ewes in ready demand here to a high of £260 for Texels, with others at £249.
Thainstone, meanwhile, witnessed Texel lambs reaching 319p/kg, more than 50p/kg up on the SQQ of 265.3p/kg.
In the Midlands Melton Mowbray saw Texel cull ewes at £175 and £164, while in Exeter they hit a high of £179.
As ever Texel lambs have been the dominant force at most sale centres, delivering quality in quantity.
