Monday’s Early NSA Ram Sale, Builth Wells, saw a strong demand for Texel shearlings, with commercial buyers clearly keen to reinvest in quality stock rams following high prime lamb prices so far this season.
Topping the trade which saw 67 shearlings level at £784.50 was a shearling from Dona Williams, Blacket House, with this one bought by R Owen, Geirn.
Also, at the same money was one from R J Watkins’ Corras flock. Buying him was J Gravelle, Pentre Poch. Close behind at 1250gns was another from Dona Williams’ Blacket House consignment. He was knocked down to D M M Jones, Abernac.
And the same buyer then paid 1150gns for another from the Blacket House pen.
The Quick family, Loosebeare, then took 1100gns thrice, with two of these selling to J P P Whittingham and Son, Great Tyrmynach. And Dona Williams then took the same money for one which found a new home with R & A Williams, Garreg.
Females hit a top of 400gns thrice, with all coming from the Llanthomas flock of G P and M Jones, with all three being bought by I and M James, Ffynnocripil.
Averages; 67 shearling rams £784,50, three shearling ewes £420 (Clee, Tomkinson and Francis).
