The value of pedigree Texels sold through sales catalogued by the Society and major commercial sales in the 2025 ram sales season and the 2025-26 in-lamb sales season totalled more than £8.25m, demonstrating the demand for Texels across the UK sheep industry.
The Society’s four National Sales accounted for £1,874,378.81, while Regional Club sales contributed a further £2,679,078. In-lamb sales then added £1,521,153.
Major commercial ram sales, the Main NSA Ram Sales and Kelso Ram Sale, boosted figures by another £2,154,284.
Society chief executive John Yates said the results highlighted the breed’s enduring position at the heart of the UK sheep industry and reflected strong latent demand for Texel genetics among commercial sheep producers.
“To have achieved more than £8.25m in pedigree Texel sales from catalogued sales and major commercial ram sales is a huge statement of the power of pedigree Texel genetics in the UK.
“There will, of course, be many more sales the length and breadth of the UK where registered Texels have been sold, which would undoubtedly push the total value of Texels sold well beyond the £10m mark, a remarkable achievement!”
Importantly, demand has been evident across all classes of stock, with commercial buyers underpinning trade at every level. This reflects the consistent added value Texel genetics deliver to sheep enterprises, regardless of system or location.
Mr Yates added that pedigree breeders could take encouragement from the figures, particularly at a time when the national flock continues to contract.
“Despite wider industry challenges, Texels remain the beating heart of the sheep industry, with strong demand for the breed as both terminal and maternal sires.
