Setting the new breed mark was a daughter of 2010 sire of the year Strathbogie Python. This gimmer, FPG1000158, is out of a dam by Cornerstone Isaac which was bought from the Haremoss dispersal for 2200gns. Selling in lamb to 32,000gns sire Hull House Space Cowboy she was knocked down to Alasdair Beaton for the Wester Crosshill flock, Falkirk.
Commenting on the sale and the new breed record British Texel Sheep Society chief executive John Yates said the demand for in-lamb Texel ewes being seen this autumn and winter was a mark of the breed’s commercial dominance.
“We are seeing new and established breeders once again investing in the best genetics available and seeking to continually improve the breed and their flocks. It’s a very positive time for the sheep industry and Texel breeders are well placed to reap the rewards on offer.”
