Alastair Gault’s Texel breed champion set the breed up for a great 2012 show season when she took the interbreed championship at Balmoral Show, under judge Archie MacGregor, Kilsyth, Glasgow.

The gimmer GAF1100309, is a daughter of 6500gns sire Duncryne Ringmaster and is out of a homebred dam by Douganhill Mc Fly which is full sister to Forkins Nijinsky. This one was on its first show outing.
Mr MacGregor who breeds Blackface and Texels under the Allanfauld prefix described the gimmer as an outstanding sheep with incredible style, breed character, a good end and great locomotion.
First Time Balmoral Win for Forkins Flock
Alastair Gault’s Forkins flock claimed its first Balmoral championship this week, with his homebred shearling ewe taking top honours under judge Jeff Aiken of the Procters flock, Lancashire.

The gimmer GAF1100309, is a daughter of 6500gns sire Duncryne Ringmaster and is out of a homebred dam by Douganhill Mc Fly which is full sister to Forkins Nijinsky. This one was on its first show outing.
Mr Aiken, said the champion had been an easy winner for him from the moment she stepped in to the ring in the gimmer class. “She’s an exceptional gimmer, correct, full of flesh and with a great top on her. She oozes breed character and stood out in both the class and the championship.”

He followed the female theme when awarding the reserve overall championship to a ewe lamb from Martin and Cyril Millar. This one, VMG1200726 is by 25,000gns sire Milnbank Special One and is out of a dam by Mellor Vale Masterpiece that was in the first prize group of three at the AGM last year.
The judge said this ewe lamb was exactly the type of lamb he was looking for. “Again she was exceptionally correct and had all the feminine qualities I wanted. She’s very sweet and flashy, but has great flesh too.”

Taking the award for the best animal of the opposite sex to the champion was the winner from the aged ram class, John Foster’s ram, while in reserve here was the first prize winning ram lamb Richard Henderson’s lamb HBR1200375. This one is by Springhill Silverstone and out of a dam by Mullan Playboy.
