First Choice daughter is the pick at Bakewell

A Rhaeadr First Choice-sired one-crop ewe from the Boden family’s Sportmans pen led the trade at the Derbyshire Diamonds in-lamb sale, Bakewell, when selling at 2000gns.

Leading the trade was BGS2306423, with this one being out of a dam by Seaforde Empire King and sold carrying triplets. Having been champion in the pre-sale show she was taken by the judge Paul Castle for the Ulmus flock, Peterborough.

A Mellor Vale gimmer from the same home then made 1450gns, with this being BCM2401990. She’s by Knap General Lee and out of a dam by Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi. Sold in-lamb with twins to this year’s Great Yorkshire Show interbreed champion, Uppermill Highway Express, she was the pick of G Ford, Whaley Bridge.

Paul Castle then backed his judgement again when buying the first prize gimmer from the pre-sale show. This was another Mellor Vale entry, BCM2401989, a daughter of Knap Grumpy out of another Seaforde Empire King daughter and selling with a top 10% texelplus index. She was also in-lamb to Highway Express.

At 1150gns was a Sportsmans gimmer by Rhaeadr First Choice and out of a Glanllyn-bred dam by Garngour Alabama. This was BGS2407363, again carrying to Uppermill Highway Express, she was taken by Giles Bramwell, Froggatt, Hope.

And then making 1040gns was the best of the day from Barney Richardson’s Fernyford flock, FFR2404388. This is a Haddo Golaith daughter out of a dam by Haymount Earth Wind and Fire and carrying to Okehall Ibiza King. She went home with Tom Allen, Foxt, Stoke on Trent.

Averages; three aged ewes £1319.50, 17 gimmers £1021.59, four ewe lambs £648.38   (Bagshaws).
