Following a period of unrestricted livestock movements from holdings in the Bluetongue restricted zone (RZ) to premises in Scotland, changes will come into force early this summer.
From 1st June until 9th September 2026 animals will only be permitted to move to Scotland from the BTV3 RZ (England, Wales, NI and IOM) in accordance with licencing rules.
Animals from the RZ moving to Scotland to live must have a negative PCR test for BTV3, with samples taken within seven days of the movement. Sheep will be unable to move to Scotland from the RZ during this time without a negative pre-movement test, even when vaccinated.
Vendors from Scotland attending shows and sales in the RZ for three days or less do not need to be tested before moving into the RZ, however, the Scottish Government recommends testing on their return to Scotland.
When animals from Scotland spend more than four days in the RZ then it must be pre-movement tested in the RZ with a negative result before it can return to Scotland.
