A strong crowd gathered at Carmarthen Market for the annual Dyfed Texel Club Progeny Show, which continues to grow and all present enjoyed the chance to socialise and appreciate the quality of animals put forward by members of the club.
Judge Carl Bellis found himself scratching his head at regular intervals and commented that the high standard in the classes made life difficult for him. There was a distinct Aberdeenshire influence in the sires of major prize winners and Carl Bellis found his champions with a pair of lambs sired by Milnbank A-Class, put forward by new member Andrew Thomas of the Brynmeini flock.

A-Class is sired by Strathbogie Yes Sir and was purchased from Worcester last year, unfortunately Andrew lost A-Class shortly after the tupping season and mentioned that due to this he is giving serious consideration to keeping the ram lamb in this pair for his own use this year. The judge commented that these were the ‘Stand out lambs on the night’.
The reserve champions were a pair of ewe lambs from the Cwmcerrig flock, these were sired by Strathbogie Yes Sir and were the leading pen from an impressive display from the Cwmcerrig team, which took rosettes in every class of the night.
Other class winners were shared between the two aforementioned flocks. The class for a pair of ram lambs was headed up by the Brynmeini flock, but his time the winning lambs were sired by Strathbogie Windbrook, a senior stock ram at the Brynmeini flock purchased from main Carlisle sale in 2015.
The pen of five lambs and pair of gimmer red tickets went to the Cwmcerrig flock, and both pens were sired by the noted Millars Windbrook, making it an excellent night for that breeding line.
It was pleasing to see so many members with stock forward and we look forward to the upcoming events over the summer.
