A trio of Texel shearling ewes by British sires collected top awards at the Salon International De L’Agriculture, or Paris Show as it is better known in the UK held 21st February – 1st March 2014.
The three ewes, were sired by two different UK sires, with two being by 2009-born Knock Papoose. This 3500gns sire carries an index of 246 and sired lambs to 10,5000gns in his first season, as well as standing first in the shearling ram class at the Royal Highland in 2010.
The other ewe was sired by Alwent Shogun, a son of the 18,000gns Allanfauld Rockafella with an index of 284.

Commenting on the success Society chief executive John Yates said it was pleasing to see British Texel genetics performing well overseas. “It is now some 40 years since the first British Texel breeders started the Society with French Texel genetics, so to see British Texels now coming out on top at such a high profile event as Paris Show is great news.
“We have worked closely with a number of French breeders in recent years, including hosting them at the Scottish Premier Sale a number of times and helping them source genetics and breeding stock.”
As well as the success of the shearling ewes, rams sired by UK sires were also successful at Paris, with a son of Fordafourie Smasher picking up a first prize and another by Teiglum Rembrandt also winning his class.
