The NI Texel Sheep Breeders Club returned for their annual Texel sale in Armoy Livestock Market recently. The pre-sale show was judged by Stephen McCollam Carmavy Flock and generously sponsored by Tannahill Livestock Care. The Club wish to extend their thanks to Stephen for taking time to judge the competition and to Tannahill Livestock Care for their sponsorship.
Mr McCollam commenced proceedings with the TLC shearling ram class choosing his first place from Mary Clarke’s Ballyrussell pen. This strong shearling, Ballyrussell Eli, is a Glenroe Bacardi son out of a Thornville Alberto sired dam.
He later went on to sell for the second highest price of the evening at 1160gns to Peter Kealey. The Ballyrussell pen set a high pace for the sale with all three exhibits the sale leaders. Mary Clarke’s first shearling into the ring sold to Leslie Millen for 1100gns. This shearling, Ballyrussell Eric,is a Mullan Cherokee son out of a Heathmount Revelation dam.
But it was Ballyrussell Elijahli who topped the sale at 1180gns. Another Bacardi son and out of a Stanybrae Angus mother, he moves home to join D and P McKendry’s flock.
Taking second place in Mr McCollams line up was Brian McAllister with Artnagullion Eldorado, a Prime Star Corona son selling later in the sale for 800gns to Adam Hunter. The Artnagullion pen enjoyed consistent trade with all three exhibits averaging £840.
Also selling for 800gns was Robbie Mulligan’s Brague exhibit, Brague Epic, a Millars Dimitri son out of a Bushmills Arnos sired dam.
Mr McCollam choose his first prize ram lamb and champion from Jack Gault’s Cherryvale pen. Selling late in the evening buyers held out for his Garngour Emerald son out of a Knock Banker dam with the drop of the hammer seeing him sell for 1000gns to John Purvis.
Next to catch the buyers’ interest was Alan Glendinnings fifth place Lylehill Fancy Pants, a Mullan Extra Special son and out of a Deveronvale Aftershock mother. He sold to Niall Connolly for 730gns. Also selling late in the sale to pocket the third leading price for a ram lamb was Martin McConville with fourth place Glenhone Fortnite, a Sportsmans Cannon Ball son out of a Mullan Awesome dam. He moves home to join Adam Hunter’s flock for 720gns.
Averages; 17 shearling rams £786, 41 ram lambs £508.
