Sadlerhead lamb rides to top at Lanark

A steady trade saw more sheep sold and averages up on the year at the Scottish Texel Club sale at Lanark.

Prices peaked at 4000gns for Robert Harvie and Matthew Davies’ ram lamb, Sadlerhead Frank the Tank, a Sportsmans Cannon Ball son from their Coalburn-based flock. Out of a ewe by Teiglum Courteener, he sold to David McKerrow and family’s Uppermill flock at Tarves, Ellon, with Gordon and David Gray taking a half share for their Ettrick flock.

Andrew Neilson’s Brackenridge consignment sold to a top of 2200gns for Brackenridge Fireball, a Claybury Dunkirk son, out of a ewe by Procters Chumba Wumba, which sold to Dougie Fleming, for his Burnhead flock at Coulter.

Champion at the pre-sale show, judged by John Currie, Carlinside, was Garngour Falcon, a Midlock Escobar son, out of a Chumba Wumba daughter, from Alan Clark, Lesmahagow. He sold at 2000gns to the Wights at Midlock, Crawford.

Ettrick FCUK, a son of New View Electrifying, led the Grays’ consignment, selling at 1700gns to Kirsty Cameron, for the Sunart flock at Gorebridge.

From the same pen as the champion, Garngour Finn, a son of Chumba Wumba sold at 1600gns to R and J Osborne, Castlehill, Thornhill.

Leading Archie and John’s Allanfauld pen, at 1600gns, was Allanfauld Fearless, by Seaforde Egyptian Warrior, which sold to AH Ritson, Ireby Hall, Wigton.

At 1500gns, the Struthers family sold Collielaw Formula 1, from the Carluke-based flock. A son of Ettrick Eagerbeaver, that one went to the Blacks at Newton of Collessie, Fife, and Robin Bell, Roxburgh Mill, Kelso.

Alan Clark then sold another, by Claybury Dunkirk, at 1300gns to A Hambleton, Merkland, Penpont.

Leading the trade for the Campbells’ Cowal flock, was Cowal Free Spirit, sired by Sportsmans Express, which sold at 1200gns to J Jackson and Son, Pole, Lochgoilhead.

Several flock dispersals took place at the sale, including those of the Westwoodlane, Whitlaw, Maintree and Auchencorth flocks, plus the second reduction sale from the Rusha flock.

Averages: 107 ram lambs, £625.68 (+£31); nine shearling rams, £598.50 (+£83). Rusha flock (part two reduction), 50 head, £406.76; Westwoodlane flock dispersal, 23 head, £447.76; Whitlaw flock dispersal, 21 head, £501.50; Maintree flock dispersal, nine head, £479.50; Auchencorth dispersal, 25 head, £579.60.
