Select Seven sees 17,000gns high and charity gimmer at 5000gns

A 17,000gns high and a gimmer sold for charity at 5000gns made this year’s Select Seven Sale, Lanark, one to remember.

Leading the sale was a gimmer from the Auldhouseburn consignment of Hugh and Alan Blackwood, BYZ1615541. This Glenside Willie Winkie daughter is out of a Knap Vicious Sid daughter and goes back to Kelso Pavarotti. She sold carrying to the 130,000gns Lanark topper Sportsmans A Star and was knocked down to the Bennett family, Welshpool, for the Plasucha flock.

The Blackwood family then reinvested some of the earnings when paying the day’s second top of 10,000gns for a gimmer from Gordon and David Gray’s Ettrick pen. This was GGH1606122, a Shannagh Won-I Won daughter out of a dam by the noted Ettirck Rainbow Warrior and going back to Castlecairn Kung Foo Fighter. She sold empty for winter flushing and with an index of 333.

Close behind at 9000gns was Albert and George Howie’s best of the sale, HAK1601063, from the Knock flock. This one is by Ettrick U racker and out of a dam by Cambwell Rob Roy. Selling in lamb to Allanfauld Am The Man, she goes back to the dam of the 20,000gns Knock Travis and was bought by Robert Cockburn for the Knap flock.

An 8500gns call for another of the Auldhouseburn pen followed that, with this paid for the Glenside Willie Winkie daughter BYZ1615502, an ET bred daughter of a ewe by Kelso Pavarottie. She goes back to Muriesk Northern Dancer and was sold in-lamb to Sportsmans A Star. Buying her was Robert Evans for the Hope Valley flock, Shropshire.

Gordon and David Gray then took 7500gns for GGH1606126, a full ET sister to their 10,000gns gimmer and again in-lamb to Albatross. She sold to David Morrison, Dalwyne.

Following her at 5800gns was another from the same home, GGH1606164, a  daughter of Douganhill Vital Spark out of an Ettrick Sir Alan daughter. She sold in-lamb to Usk Vale Albatross and was taken by W Graham and Sons, Craigdarrosh.

Northern Irish breeder Adrian Ligget then paid 5500gns for the best from the Craighead pen of the Cullen family. This was CMC1601212, an Eden Valley William Wallace daughter out of a Strathbogie Up To Love daughter and in-lamb to Hartside All Star.

At 5000gns was another of the Ettrick gimmers GGH1606077, an ET bred daughter of Ellen Valley Warlord and out of a dam by Enniscrone Van Gaal. She sold carrying to Usk Vale Albatross and was bought by David McKerrow for the Nochnary flock, Fife.

Also at this level was GGH1606181 from the Gray family. This Knock Papoose daughter was offered in aid of the My Name’5 Doddie MND Foundation, with all proceeds going to the charity set up by the former Scotland rugby star to fund research in to motor neureone disease.

She is out of a dam by Sportmans Unimog and sold in-lamb to Hartside All Star. She was bought by Alan Campbell, Strawfrank, with underbidder Malcolm Couborough, Whelphill, also donating a further 5000gns to the fund.

Selling for 4500gns was the topper from the Clark family, a Teiglum gimmer by Mossvale Winston. She is CFT1604573, an ET bred gimmer out of a Castlecairn Vavavoom daughter. She goes back to Strathbogie Smokey Blue and sold in-lamb to Crailloch Ammunition and was bought by A Breen, Enniskillen.

Then making 4400gns was another from the Howie family’s Knock pen, HAK1601089, an Ettrick U Cracker daughter out of a dam by Knock Orion. In-lamb to Allanfaul Am The Man she sold with an index of 312 and was bought by M Paterson, Crumlin.

Close behind at 4200gns was the first in from Knock, HAK1601085, a Tophill Wall St daughter out of a dam by Glenside Razzle Dazzle and in-lamb again to the Allanfauld sire. This one sold to Karen Wight, Midlock.

And making 4000gns was GGH1606081 from the Gray family. Sired by Ellen Valley Warlord, she is out of a dam by Ettrick Rainbow Warrior and sold in-lamb to Clinterty Yuga Khan. She was bought by Archie Hamilton, Lanark, for the Smyllum flock.
