Yogi Bear triumphs in Dyfed Club progeny show

Clinterty Yogi Bear (by Tophill Wall Street) took the honours in the highly competitive Dyfed Club video progeny show. A total of 33 quality entries came in from 11 flocks across six classes and were sorted virtually by Tony Williams, Stelfox.

Tony commented on the quality of the line up: “If the Dyfed Texel Breeders continue in this vein they will be certain of many successes in National Sales and you can be assured there will be a tremendous quality of stock of the Dyfed Texel Sale with McCartneys in Brecon later in the year.”

Taking the championship with five strong well fleshed gimmers by the 52,000gns Yogi Bear were 2017 and 2019 All Wales Flock Competition winners John Eirian and Lynwen Davies, Teilo. It was quite the competition for them as the took the top honours in each of the four classes they entered.

They also took the reserve championship with a group of five lamb out of last year’s joint Lanark purchase with Tophill – Arkle Captain Flash. A half brother to the Lanark Champion by Silvermere Baltic. Another pair of ram lambs by Captain Flash won the ram lamb pairs.

Runners up to Teilo in the group of five lambs were five for Club chairman Keith Thomas, Tywi, out of Drumderg Ace with five by Knap Angus Ogg for Carwyn Lewis, Hathren in third.

Teilo also took  the pair of gimmers first prize with two by their joint Lanark purchase with the Aman flock – Knap Angus Ogg. Angus Ogg is by the 60,000gns Clinterty Yuga Khan and left a pair of sharp balanced gimmers.

Other class winners were club Chairman Keith Thomas (Tywi) in the pair of ewe lambs with a sharp pair by Drumderg Ace. He also took second in this strong class with a pair by the homebred Tywi Cwrcyn. Third in this class was Dafydd Evans (Bwlchygwynt) with two by Rhaeadr Braveheart.

Second in the pair of ram lambs was another two for Tywi by Drumderg Ace and in third a pair by Knap Angus Ogg from the Hathren flock of Carwyn Lewis.

A new class was the mixed group of three lambs class. A bright ram and two ewe lambs from Knap Angus Ogg won this for Carwyn Lewis (Hathren). Eldon Thomas (Wydden) sent videos down all the way from North Wales and was rewarded with a second place for three shapely lambs by Auldhouseburn Billy the Kid. In third was Wayne Phillips (Townswood) with three by the homebred Townswood Braveheart.

The other prizes in the gimmer pairs were taken by Teilo with their second entry, this time by Deveronvale Viscount, jointly owned with Aman, and third by Tywi this time by the homebred Tywi Brenin.

In the five gimmers the Jones Family, Llanthomas, were runners up with five powerful Clun Admiral daughters and wrapping up some all round performance by Knap Angus Ogg, who secured a prize in all but one of the classes, were the third place, this time from the Aman flock of J & G Y Davies.

The club is hugely grateful as ever to Bryan Jones of the Cottage Inn, Llandeilo, for his support in sponsoring the competition. His tireless work supplying meals on wheels locally during this pandemic is noted and to be congratulated.
