Texel breeders enjoyed tremendous success in the intebreed judging at the Royal Highland Show, with the breed clinching the championship honours in the interbreed pairs competition and the reserve championship in the individual interbreed competition.

Winning the interbreed pairs under judge Allan Wight, Midlock, were the breed’s male and female champion, Ian Murray’s shearling tup Glenway Universe and Procters Farm’s aged ewe. Glenway Universe is a son of the 18,000gns Allanfauld Rockafella out of a dam by Castleknow Matchmaker, while the aged ewe is PFD1101038, a daughter of the 50,000gns Haddo Ringleader out of an Annan dam by Ettrick McCoist.
Mr Wight praised the winning pair for their evenness of fleshing and said they were easy winners. “They were the best matched pair and two very good representatives of the Texel breed,” he explained.
In the individual interbreed championship under judge Angus Kennedy Ian Murray’s shearling tup Glenway Universe picked up the reserve interbreed championship. Mr Kennedy said the tup was a great example of the breed and displayed excellent locomotion and great commercial fleshing attributes.
