The Society’s Southern Feature Show at Royal Three Counties Show, Malvern, saw a strong turnout of sheep, with the jointly owned shearling ram Mellor Vale I Spy from Eamonn Vaughan, Partridge Nest, and Nick Legge, Thornbury, taking the breed championship under judge John MacGregor, Allanfauld.
I Spy, a son of Uppermill Highway Express, is out of a dam by Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi and had been purchased at the Solway and Tyne Club’s sale, Carlisle, for 12,000gns.
Having won the male and breed championship, he went on to claim the championship ticket in the Terminal Sire interbreed championship and the reserve overall interbreed championship. This followed on the back of his interbreed success at Staffordshire County Show last month.
Taking the reserve overall championship in the breed classes was the reserve male champion and winner of the open ram lamb class, WXO2600004 from Sam and Natalie White’s Liddimore flock. He’s by the 2025 First Season Sire of the Year, Okehall Hammerhead, and out of a Thornbury-bred dam by the 100,000gns Glenside Forever II.
Taking the day’s female championship was the leader of the aged ewe class, BGS2407220, from young breeders Archie and Harry Stamp, Bowbridge. She’s by the 170,000gns Knap Grumpy and out of a dam by the 80,000gns Procters El Presidente. She had been purchased for 2000gns at the English National Sale last year as a gimmer and had previously been breed champion at Devon County Show.
Reserve female honours went to Will Davis and Sophia Chambers’ ewe lamb, UUV2600191, from the Usk Valley flock. She’s a daughter of the 24,000gns Allanfauld Hoffmeister and out of a dam by Knap Gandolph.
Leading the day’s first class, the aged rams, was Corras Harvey from Sam MacPherson, with this one being by Roxburgh Deadly Dave and out of a dam by Corras Armidale.
In the Texelplus ram lambs the winner was Nick Legge’s lamb, Thornbury Jackpot. This is a son of the 19,000gns homebred Thornbury Ironside and out of a dam by the 100,000gns Glenside Forever.
Matt Coles’ Pear Tree flock took top spot in the gimmers, with his winner being XPT2500179. She’s by Orchilmore Goldschlager and out of a homebred dam by Auldhouseburn Fleet Street.
Eamonn Vaughan’s Partridge Nest flock then picked up the red ticket in both the group of three lambs class, the exhibitor-bred pairs class and the open group of three class, wrapping up a successful day for the team.
