Procters shearling ewe leads the way at
Great Yorkshire Show

Championship honours in the Texel classes at the Great Yorkshire Show went to a shearling ewe from the Procters flock managed by Jeff and Jennifer Aiken.

The gimmer, a daughter of 50,000gns tup Haddo Ringleader is out of a dam by Forkins Nijinsky. Her dam was champion of champions at Cumberland last year and is maternal sister to Procters Ronaldhino which sold for 7000gns at Carlisle in 2010.

This was the 60-ewe flock’s first championship win at Great Yorkshire and the gimmer had been female champion under judge Victor Chestnutt before being tapped out as overall champion.

Taking the reserve championship honours was the male champion and winner of the old tup class, Baltier Panther from Charlie Boden. Sired by Kidston Olympian he is out of a dam by Watchknowe Jimmy’s Pride, with a half share being bought by Mr Boden from his breeder Robert Forsyth at Lanark in 2009.

Reserve female champion was the winner of the ewe lamb class from the Kermode family, Isle of Mann. This was a daughter of Tamnamoney Stallone out of a dam by Noresk Monarch and was second prize ewe lamb at the Royal Highland last month.

In reserve spot in the rams was a tup lamb from William McCaffrey’s Scholars flock. This Mullan Supremacy son is out of a dam by Hull House Northern Star.
