A strong turnout of stock at Biggar Show for the Scottish Texel Club Show, ensured a difficult job for judge Peter Woof, of the Stainton flock.
In the end, it was the males that triumphed in the championship, with Allanfauld Glenmorangie, a ram lamb from Archie and John MacGregor taking the top spot.
He is sired by Plasucha Fury, bought at Lanark last year, while the dam is a home-bred ewe by Procters Chumba Wumba. This one is destined for sale at the Scottish National Sale, Lanark, next month.
Reserve overall went to the first prize shearling ram from Robert Laird, Cambwell. That was Deveronvale Fastrac, which was bought at Lanark last year and is shared with the Boghouse flock. Sired by Cressage Enforcer, out of a ewe by Deveronvale Aftershock, he had stood second in his class at the Royal Highland.
Best opposite sex to the champion was Robert Cockburn’s gimmer LKV2108156, a daughter of New View Electrifying, out of a homebred daughter of Sportsmans Cannon Ball. She was second at Lesmahagow Show earlier in the season.
The Jubilee points trophy, awarded to the exhibitor with the most points across all the classes, went to Andrew Clark, of the Teiglum flock, Crossford.
