Eagle soars at Glos and Borders Progeny show

Paul Castle’s shearling ram Ulmus Eagle soared to the top of the prizes at the inaugural Gloucester and Borders Texel Breeders Club Progeny Show on Saturday 14th September.

By Garngour Craftsman and out of a Sportsmans bred dam by Deveronvale Ace of Diamonds, Lancashire-based judge Jeff Aiken of the Procters and Tatham Hall flocks described this tup as a correct tup with great flesh and locomotion, coupled with style and ring presence.

Taking the reserve spot was the host for the day, James Theyer of the Clanfield flock, Oxfordshire, with a shearling ewe, THE2100860. By stock sire Hope Valley C The Stars, this one is out of a Sportsmans bred dam again, this time by Knock Abracadabra. Mr Aiken described this one as “a gimmer with style and presence and tremendous body.”

The Clanfield team also picked up first place in the ram lamb class with THE2200953. By the 100,000gns stock tup, Auldhouseburn Expression, this one is out of a Millhouse Crossbow daughter.

Standing at the top of the ewe lamb class was the Fordwell Farm Partners, Oxfordshire, with CJF2201276. By Sportsmans Cannon Ball, this one is out of a Teiglum dam by Forkins Bently.
