Duncan Currie – Beautry

The Society is saddened to learn that after a brief illness, Duncan Currie, Beautry, sadly passed away peacefully on Thursday 8th June.

Duncan purchased his first Texels in 1980,  with four French bred and three Dutch females and one each from Andrew Barr, Gavin Hamilton and Jimmy Warnock plus the ram Annan Jaguar from Keith Jamieson and so the Beautry flock was formed.

Successes in the show and sale rings included taking two  Royal show supreme championships, plus another Beautry bred one and three reserve championships.

Meanwhile, Beautry ram lambs topped the Lanark sale averages on three occasions 1983,1984 and 1990. Duncan was a founding member of the North West Texel Breeders Club and it was at their inaugural sale that he achieved what at the time was a world record price for a female sheep of £8040.

Many lifelong friends have been made around the UK and beyond as a result of his commitment to the breed.
