Saturday 25th May turned out to be a memorable day for the Watkins family of Cwmcerrig. Having taken the decision to merge the Club Show and Progeny Show into one event at Cothi Bridge Show the Watkins family took top honours in both sections.
Local breeder Gareth Morgan was the judge and he had his work cut out with a number of strong classes, but in the club show he found his champion in the winner of the gimmer class, WJJ1801253.
This Strathbogie Yes Sir daughter out of a Glenside Razzle Dazzle ewe had many admirers and later in the day went all the way to scoop top honours in the interbreed judging. This is ewe is destined for Lanark later this year. Reserve champion in the show was a ram lamb from Shae Price of the Gereafon flock.
In the Progeny Show the Watkins family prevailed again, after dominating the classes. Gimmers by Strathbogie Yes Sir took the honours in yearling classes, but it was lambs by Forkins Body Builder (a Scotsman Avicii son) which stole the show. Cwmcerrig brought forward two pens of five lambs from this tup, and the pen of five ewe lambs were the ones which took top honours from the judge Mr Morgan.
A pair of Yes Sir lambs from Cwmcerrig won first prize in the mixed sex class and a pair of female lambs from the Thomas’ family Tywi flock sired by Drumderg Ace took first place in the final pairs class.
