Texels lead at Royal Northern Spring Show

Texel crosses dominated the prizes at yesterday’s Royal Northern Spring Show, Thainstone, taking the championships in both the prime and breeding sheep sections.

Championship honours in the prime sheep fell to a pair of Texel cross hoggs from David Black, Minard, Kirriemuir. This pair of 44.5kg hoggs were bred by Roddy Thomson, Aberfeldy and helped Mr Black go one better than last year when he picked up the reserve championship.

Meanwhile, in the breeding sheep classes the red, white and blue rosette fell to the Ken Sutherland and family, Sibmister and Stainland Farms, with their pen of three Texel cross ewe hoggs from their Thurso-based flock.
