Shearling ewe wins at Royal Bath and West

This year’s Society Southern feature show at Royal Bath and West saw a bumper entry and quality throughout the classes in front of immediate past president Henry Gamble.

A strong contingent of local exhibitors put forward an outstanding show of sheep and showcased the breed to a ringside of spectators. Mr Gamble praised all exhibitors for the standard of the entry early in the season and commended them for pulling out all the stops for the event.

Lifting the breed championship was the Drayton Farm Partnership with their shearling ewe, FTD1501755, a gimmer which went on to lift the interbreed championship later in the show. This one is a Procters Unlimited daughter out of a Crosskirks dam by the consistent breeding Kelso Pavarotti. She was on her first show outing, with a paternal sister having picked up the interbreed title at Surrey Show just a matter of days earlier.

Taking the reserve supreme championship was the winner of the shearling ram class, Strathbogie Wembley, a Mullan Vivaldi son from Wade and Georgie Helyer. He’s out of a Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter and was bought as a lamb at the English National Sale, Worcester.

Then in the aged ram class the winner was an entry from A J Carter, Loosebeare Valliant II, a Strathbogie Terminator son out of a dam by Douganhill Jeronimo.

Winning the ram lamb class were Messrs Corfield with their Llangwm William son, CJF1600651. He’s out of a dam by Tophill Scorpion. In the aged ewe class the top spot went to Ian and Fiona Andrews with a Beautry ewe, CUB1400932, an Arkle Uncle Tom daughter out of a dam by Procters Oswald.

The ewe lamb class was then won by Ian and Fiona Andrews with a Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter, AIC1600205. She’s out of a dam by Clinterty Samba I. In the group of three class the winners were a trio from the Corfield family’s Fordwell flock.
