Christmas Cracker females go with a bang

Trade at Friday’s (12 December) Christmas Cracker sale of Texel in-lamb females at Carlisle saw the first consignment, John Forsyth’s Glenside entry, set trade going with a bang.

Taking the evening’s top call of 4500gns was FPG1300627, a Mellor Vale The One daughter out of a dam by Strathbogie Python and in-lamb to the 38,000gns Castlecairn Vavavoom. She was bought by Archie Hamilton for the Smyllum flock.

Second best of the sale came late in the day when Jonathan Watson sold at 2400gns from the Brijon flock. This call came for REW1304012, a daughter of the great breeding Brackenridge Strongbow out of a Croft Lexus sired dam. This one sold carrying twins to Knock Talisman and was bought by David and Matt Prince, Chesterfield.

Then selling at 2200gns was another from the Brijon consignment, REW1304094.  This Beeford Pimpernel sired gimmer is out of a Castlecairn Karma Man. She sold in-lamb carrying triplets to Knock Talisman and was bought by Procters Farm, Clitheroe.

Next best at 2000gns was FPG1300619 from John Forsyth. This Mellor Vale The One daughter is in lamb to the 85,000gns Cornmore Velvet Jacket and is out of a dam by Python again. She was knocked down to G and K Williams, Llanwnnen, Lampeter.

The best for Allan and Karen Wight’s Midlock offering was an 1800gns call for WKM1309374, a Teiglum Thunder daughter out of a dam by Foyle View Superstar. Sold in-lamb to Sportsmans Unbeatable this ET bred gimmer sold to Archie Hamilton for the Smyllum flock.

At the same money came Michael and Melanie Alford’s best from the Foxhillfarm flock for AFO1300061. This Cowal Rob Roy II daughter is out of a Strathbogie Python daughter, the 11,000gns Fairywater ewe. She is full sister to the 2014 show gimmer who won many classes and also stood third at the Royal Welsh Show.

Sold in-lamb to Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold she was knocked down to J and S Wilkinson, Barningham, Richmond.

And also at this price were a pair from Brijon. The first of these was REW1304045, a Grey Peel Rambo daughter out of a dam by the homebred Brijon Kracker. She sold in-lamb to Brackenridge Strongbow and was bought by the Prince family, Chesterfield.

And the same buyers then took the other Brijon gimmer at the same money, REW1304078. This twin-born Grey Peel Rambo daughter is out of a dam by Langside Opinion and sold carrying to Strongbow again.

Selling at 1500gns was the first of the day from the Alfords, AFO1300052, an ET bred Cowal Rob Roy II daughter which is full sister to the pen leading 1800gns gimmer. This one is in-lamb to Courthill Valentino and was bought by Drayton Farm Partnership, Petersfield.

Another from the same pen then made the same money. This was AFO1300053, a full ET sister to the previous lot. This one sold in-lamb to Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and was bought by S McPherson, Sezincote, Moreton-in-Marsh.

A Brijon gimmer also sold at this level, with this being REW1304119, a Grey Peel Rambo daughter out of a dam by Brijon Kracker and going back to Goldies Godfather. She sold to A C Vernon, Moulton, Spalding.

Averages; 16 Glenrock gimmers £1371.56, six Midlock gimmers £770, eight Foxhillfarm gimmers £1299.38, 12 Brijon gimmers £1400 (Harrison and Hetherington).
