Averages climb at Builth Early NSA Sale

Texel breeders at the Early NSA Ram Sale, Builth Wells, saw the average climb by £69.98 on the year, with 19 more shearling rams sold and a clearance rate of 80% also up on last year.

On a day when many breeds found the trade steady, Texels were the clear favourites of buyers, with 123 shearling rams sold to level at £617.71 and 123 of the 152 forward finding new homes.

Topping the trade at 1750gns was Tycam Y Bard from the Howells family, with this  tup being by the homebred Tycam Solo. He found a new home with K and J Davies, Heyhope, Powys.

Then taking the second best call of the sale at 1200gns was one of the early lots of the day from the Chave family’s consignment, Peacehay Your Special. Sired by the homebred Peacehay Untouchable he is out of a Cabetran Trojan daughter and was knocked down to Roger and Tom Elliot, Kislingbury, Northamptonshire.

Following on at 1100gns was another from the Howells family, with this son of Hartside Up And At Um selling to R Enyon, Beulah.

Drayton Farm Partnership then sold at 1050gns, with this price paid by E T Greenow and S R Jones, Llanegryn, Tywyn, for Meon Down Yuga Khan, a Cennen Warrior son out of a dam by Meon Down Spartacus and with an index of 388.

Three then sold at 1000gns, with the first being the best of the day from the Quick family, Loosebeare Young Ed. He is a son of Whitehart Ultra and is out of a Whitehart Spot On daughter. This one was the pick of J S Kinsey, Hundred House, Powys.

The Bryn Dansi flock of G P Willams then took the same money for Bryn Dansi Ysbryd, a Greenknowe Viamaka son out of a dam by Mellor Vale Tomahawk. He sold to Drayton Farm Partnership.

And the final 1000gns call came for another Loosebeare tup, Loosebeare You Bet, the first of the day from the Quicks. This son of Whitehart Taylor Made is out of a Cennen Magnum daughter and sold to N T Davies, Neuadd, Bleddfa.

Shearling ewe trade was led at 700gns by one from D J Morgan’s Tynewydd flock, MDY1601354. Sired by Arkle Waldorf she is out of a dam by Arkle Pacific Star and was bought by I B Davies, Talsarn.
