Entries are now open for the Texel Sheep Society’s inaugural ‘Textravaganza’ National Texel Show on Friday 30th July at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
The event, which will also feature sales of gimmers and ram lambs, has been organised by the Society to give Texel Society members the opportunity showcase the best of their flocks in a year once again devoid of many of the usual summer shows.
Entries for the show classes and the gimmer and ram lamb sales can only be made via the Society’s website at www.texel.uk/nationalshow and are open from 12 noon today, Friday 11th June, until 12 noon on Monday 28th June.
Society chief executive John Yates encouraged members to support this extra special event and said he fully expected the event would be one of the largest showcases of the Texel breed ever seen in the UK.
“I have no doubt the quality on display will be exceptional and will be an outstanding showcase of the very best Texels from across the UK.
“With many shows cancelled again this year or operating in a very limited manner the Society is delighted to give members this opportunity to showcase their best animals ahead of the autumn sales season.”
Judges for the event are John MacGregor of the Allanfauld flock, Kilsyth, Glasgow, and Richard Henderson of the Ballynahone flock, Magherafelt, Co Londonderry, with Mr MacGregor judging the female classes and Mr Henderson the male classes.
The judges will then join forces to place the event’s championships. Meanwhile, Rachel Wilson of the Milnbank flock, Aberdeenshire, has the task of adjudicating in the event’s young handlers classes for Texel enthusiasts under 16 years old.
Mr Yates added that the event will be run in line with relevant Covid-19 guidelines in place at the time and could be subject to cancellation should it be deemed necessary to do so.
