Stainton shearling leads NWTBC sale at 1150gns

The North West Texel Breeders Club sale at J36 on Sunday resulted in a top call of 1150gns for a shearling ram from Peter and Rose Woof.

Topping the sale was Stainton Am Yours, an ET bred son of Knock Yankee out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno and carrying an index of 330. This one sold to M J and K Ayrton, Moss Lane, Lancaster.

Second top at 1100gns was another shearling from the same pen, Stainton Apache. He is again by Yankee and is out of a Sportsmans Tremendous II daughter and sold to R and E Ladds, Scalthwaiterigg, with an index of 419.

After that came a 1000gns call for the best of the gimmers on offer, with this one coming from Richard Wilson’s Eden Valley pen in the form of WEV1704014. She is another by Yankee and is ET bred out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno. Sold with an index of 282, she was taken by Josh Sugden, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire.

Then making 800gns was another gimmer, this time from the Woofs. This was WPS1701039, a Hexel Wildcard daughter out of a ewe by Sportsmans Tremendous II and with an index of 255. She also headed north to Dumfriesshire with Mr Sugden.

And at 750gns in the gimmers was one from the Bradley family’s Far Hey flock, BRF1700342. She’s an Anglezarke Uno daughter out of a dam by Cambwell Taurus and sold to Thomas Pateman, Brompton By Sawdon, North Yorkshire.

Leading the ram lamb trade at 850gns was Ryan Bradley’s entry Bradleys Bandit, a Teiglum Younggun son out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno. This twin born ET lamb sold to M and J Tennant and Sons, Barrow, Clitheroe.

Three then sold at 600gns, with the first being from Jill Mortimer-Tarbatt in the shape of Earnshaw Big Spender, a Brookhill Wait N C son out of a dam by Bryn Garth Very Good. He was knocked down to N Pagett, Tarleton.

Second at this price was another from the Bradley family’s pen, Far Hey Big Lad, a Teiglum Young Gun son out of another Uno daughter. He found a new home with T Smith, Padside, North Yorkshire.

And the last at 600gns was Stainton Buccaneer from the Woofs. He’s by Knock Yankee and out of an Uno daughter and sold with an index of 366, being bought by previous buyer Josh Sugden.

In the ewe lambs the top call of 700gns came for a substitute entry from Selwyn and Tomos Evans’ Welsh flock. This one was ESW1801052, a Cairness Ranger daughter out of a Fordafourie-bred dam by Garngour Vintage. This one was bought by H Morphett and Son, Austwick.
