Gimmer leads Midlands Club Sale at 1500gns

A gimmer from the Lockhart family, Norfolk, took the day’s top call of 1500gns at the Midland Texel Breeders Sale, part of the September Sheep Sale at Newark.

This was LKH1700495, a twin-born gimmer by Stainton Venom and out of a dam by Mitchelhill Toby. She sold with an index of 410 and was bought by A H Booth, Hardwick Lane, Sheffield.

Next best in the females was a trio of 700gns calls, with the first of these also being gimmers from the Lockharts. The first of these was LKH171700493, another by Venom and out of a Mitchelhill Toby daughter. She sold to Richard Greasley, Keedleston, Derbyshire, with an index of 350.

The other from the Lockhart pen at this money was LKH1700519, a Procters Yeoman daughter out of a dam by Strathbogie Stonker. She was another to head to Derbyshire with Mr Greasley.

And the final 700gns call came for one from Richard Wilson, Appleby, with this being WEV1700954, an ET bred gimmer by Knock Yankee out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno. Selling with an index of 272, she was also taken by Mr Greasley.

Best in the Texel males was a 1000gns sale for a shearling tup from the Lockharts, Melton Constable Amazon. This son of Garngour Wall Street is out of a Mitchelhill Toby daughter, and found a new home with R and S Hatton Frisby on the Wreake.

Close behind at 950gns was Moorgate Abram from B and J Newton. This son of Ettrick Water Boy is out of a Brookhill Viscount-sired dam and sold to Frank Page, Northampton.

Five shearling tups then traded at 900gns, with three of these coming from local vendor Philip Weaver. The first was Empire Acoura Boy, a Tamnamoney Vanilla son out of a dam by Langside Talon, with this one selling to C Foster, Market Rasen.

The same buyer then took Empire Empire Adrian Mole, a Wellingley Whiskey Galore son out of a dam by Llegodig Samson. Third from the Empire pen at 900gns was Empire All Star, another by Vanilla and out of a dam by Cambwell Scott 2nd. He was bought by T Marsden, Cold Hanworth.

Also making 900gns was the best of the day from the Prince family, Derbyshire, with this being Hightecs Action Man, a son of Handbank Madoc out of a dam by Avon Cale Real Deal. He sold with an index of 493 to M J Wells and Son, Moynash.

And the final 900gns call was made for one from Richard and Margaret Lawrence, Coton All Right. He’s by Crailloch Usain Bolt and out of a dam by Hollyford Rockafella and sold to G A and A Vickers and Son, Tilton.

Leading Texel ram lamb trade at 600gns was Peter Woof’s Stainton Barthalo, a Knock Yankee son out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno. He sold with an index of 292 to G G E Ball, Nottingham.

Averages; 39 Texel shearling rams £635.12, 46 Texel gimmers £452.87, 16 Texel ram lambs £379.97 (Newark Livestock Sales).
