Royal Highland Show – 2013

Two-crop Glenside ewe takes top honours at Royal Highland Show

It was a case of history repeating itself at the Royal Highland Show, with a two-crop ewe from John Forsyth’s Glenside flock taking the top honours following on from her breed and interbreed win at the same show last year.

Heading up an all female and all Glenside championship one-two was Mr Forsyth’s ewe, FPG1000017, by 33,000gns sire Muiresk Blondin and out of a dam by Castlecairn Celtic Star.

And in a unique twist the reserve female and reserve overall honours in the breed went to another Glenside ewe, FPG1000038, a full sister to the champion, which had stood second in the aged ewe class.

Judge Gordon Gray of the Ettrick flock said he had known the ewe would be his champion from the minute she entered the ring in her class. “For a sheep of her age to come out looking so well is a credit to her breeder and to the breed itself. The females just stood out today, the champion has style, power and flesh. She oozes femininity and was a clear winner.

“I set out to find the best sheep I could and she was that without a doubt for me.”

Taking the male championship was the winner of the tup lamb class, IJS1300280, from the Innes family’s Strathbogie flock, he is a son of homebred sire Strathbogie Terminator.

John Forsyth was then back on winning form, taking the reserve male championship with the second prize tup lamb, FPG1300630, a son of 9000gns sire Mellor Vale The One. He is out of a homebred dam by Strathbogie Python.
