Proven performance in demand from Alwent flock

The reliability and proven peformance of high indexed pedigree Texels was a big draw for buyers at yesterday’s (5 January) sale from the Alwent and Arkle flocks at Carlisle, with the Alwent consignment’s strong performance figures backed up by strong breeding lines seeing exceptional demand.

Prices topped at 4200gns and the Nesbitt family’s draft of 43 gimmers from the Alwent flock levelling the day at an exceptional £1232.41. Heading the trade at 4200gns was NTA1300725, an ET bred Goldies Supreme daughter out of a dam by Drinkstone Oh So Smart and in-lamb to Clinterty USA. This one scanned with twins and sold with an index of 405, being in the top 1% of the breed for muscle depth and gigot muscularity. She was the first of four high priced lots to head to Chesterfield, Derbyshire, with David and Matthew Prince.

Second best from Alwent at 2900gns was a Teviot Rocket daughter, NTA1300762. This twin born gimmer is out of a dam by a Tweed sire and sold with an index of 412 and in-lamb with twins to Goldies Supreme. She also headed home with the Prince family.

Then making 2700gns and again on the way back to Chesterfield was another by Supreme, NTA1300729. This ET bred gimmer is full sister to the 4200gns sale topper and is again in-lamb to Clinterty USA. She has an index of 410 and is again in the top 1% for growth, muscle depth and gigot muscularity.

Danny Sawrij, Kedzlie Farms, was another of the day’s major investors, with his top call being 2400gns for another ET sister to the sale topper, NTA1300717. She sold with an index of 378 and in-lamb to Cambwell Rob Roy.

David and Matthew Prince then paid 2200gns for another ET sister from this flush, NTA1300721. She was in-lamb to Clinterty USA and has an index of 375.

And at 2000gns Danny Sawrij picked out a Goldies Supreme daughter, NTA1300650. She’s out of a dam by Drinkstone Oh So Smart and goes back to Haddo Kingpin. She carries an index of 430 and is in the top 1% for muscle depth and gigot muscularity.

Messrs Davidon and Sons, Langley-On-Tyne, also paid 2000gns for a Supreme daughter, NTA1300728. This another from the highly successful flush and has an index of 404.

And at 1900gns Caroline Hastings bought yet another from this flush, NTA1300719. She sold carrying twins to the 18,000gns Allanfauld Rockafella.

Danny Sawrij then bought the next three dearest lots, paying 1800gns for a Goldies Supreme daughter out of a dam by Sportsmans Ocean. This was NTA1300655 and sold in-lamb to Cambwell Rob Roy with an index of 302.

His next buy at 1700gns was the Allanfauld Rockafella daughter NTA1300661. This twin born gimmer is out of a dam by the homebred Alwent Major Force and sold in-lamb to Goldies Supreme. Then at 1600gns was NTA1300637, another by Rockafella. She is out of a Drumpark President daughter and sold in-lamb to Clinterty USA with an index of 248.

Also at this money was NTA1300714, an ET bred Teiglum Tennessee daughter out of a dam by Ettrick Rainbow Warrior. Sold in-lamb to Clinterty USA she headed to Appleby-in-Westmorland with James Winter.

Leading the prices in the Wilkinson family’s consignment from their Arkle and Ellen Valley flocks was a 1900gns call for an Arkle Topper daughter, YGW1301647. This one is out of a dam by Curley Orlando and sold in-lamb to Milnbank Vantastic when bought by the Sutherland family, Murkle, Thurso.

And at 1000gns was another Ellen Valley gimmer, YGW1301602, a Stonebridge Thomas daughter. She’s out of a dam by Brague Jethro and again sold in-lamb to Vantastic. She was bought by I Woodward, Belper, Derbyshire.

A small consignment from the Orr family’s Halbeath flock then topped at 1900gns too when James Winter bought ONH1300163, a twin born Teiglum Topper daughter. She’s out of a dam by Halbeath Maverick and sold in-lamb to Hartside Volt.

Gordon Gray then paid 1700gns for a recipient carrying an embryo with this pregnancy being by Hartside Volt and out of a Loosebeare ewe bought in 2013 for 6200gns. She goes back to Summerwood Grand Union and Douganhill Ferrari.

Averages; 43 Alwent gimmers £1232.41, 38 Arkle gimmers £452.33, five Halbeath gimmers £1029, one recipient £1785 (Harrison and Hetherington).
