Northern Lights Sale – 2013

Springwell gimmers shine at Northern Lights sale

Texel females traded at a top price of 2000gns at the Northern Lights Sale at Hilltown, Northern Ireland, on Friday 27th December, with the lead price coming for a gimmer from Henry Gamble’s Springwell flock.

Sale leader, GRS1200289, is a daughter of the noted sire Derryvore Ranger and is out of a dam by Easterseat Minstrel and goes back to Teiglum Iceman. This one, in-lamb to Oberstown Usainbolt, and sold to the Cornerstone flock of the Simpson family. She goes back to the 2013 Balmoral champion on her female side.

And the same buyer and vendor combination was behind the day’s second best price of 1900gns when the Simpsons bought another Springwell gimmer. This one was also by Ranger.

At the same money was a Blackstown gimmer from the Wilson family. Sired by Carmavy Stirker this gimmer sold to Alastair Breen, Fermanagh.

David Warwick’s Braehead flock was in the money with two Humeston Starbuck daughters both selling at 1500gns. The first of these joined the Springhill flock of John Foster, with the second heading to the Cornerstone flock of David Simpson.

Brian Hanthorn’s Mullan consignment then sold at the same price too, taking 1500gns for a Kelso Picasso daughter which sold to Henry Gamble, Springwell.

The Springwell flock recouped its outlay when taking 1300gns for a gimmer which sold to Eire breeders McHugh Bros, Carrickmoss. Just shy of that at 1250gns was John Foster’s Blackstown flock when selling a Crosskirk Superstar daughter.

Another from the Mullan pen, a Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter then sold at 1200gns, with this one carrying twins to Bradleys Underworld selling to Robin Ellis.

Embryo pregancies were well sought after too, peaking at 800gns for one from the Mullan consignment. This single pregnancy is by Oberstwon Usainbolt and is a maternal sister to the first prize ewe lamb from Armagh Show 2013. Buying this were R E, D R and D P Jones for their KITROB flock in Pwllheli. Selling at 700gns was the other Mullan embryo this one sired by Strathbogie Terminator. It found a new home at Carmavy Texels.
