New £35,000 Sale Record at Kelso
Texels set a new all breeds sale record at Kelso Ram Sales, when Peter and Lynn Gray, Scrogtonhead, sold their pen topper at £35,000. The Gray’s sale leader was their first in the ring, GLH1304107, a son of the 46,000gns Lanark purchase Foyle View Superstar out of a homebred dam by Cambwell Regal.
This one had previously been interbreed champion at Newmilns and after a heated bidding battle was knocked down to Procters Farm, Clitheroe, under the management of Jeff Aiken.

Second best of the day in both the Texel and the entire sale was a £9000 call for Messrs Redhead and Watson’s shearling tup REW1304107. Sired by Beeford Pimpernel he is out of a dam by Langside Opinion. He sold to Paul Slater, Macclesfield.
The College flock of Ted Fox then sold a Brackenridge Strongbow sired shearling at £7200 to Messrs Hunter, Juries Hall. His dam goes back to the homebred College Oz.
Ian Murray then took his best ever Kelso price, when making £6000 of his Royal Highland Show breed champion and reserve interbreed champion, Glenway Universe. Sired by the 18,000gns Allanfauld Rockafella he is out of a dam by Castleknowe Matchmaker and sold to Angela Nairey for the Meinspride flock.
Following that at £5400 was Waen Undercover from Jimmy and Donald MacGregor’s Dyke pen. This Ellen Valley Trojan son is out of a Baltier King sired dam and was originally bred by Messrs Joseph, Shropshire. He was knocked down to Steven Renwick, Craig Douglas.
Trading at £5000 was Douganhill Farms’ GCK1304134, a Stonebridge Thunder sired shearling out of Castleknowe Or Never bred dam. He was knocked down to Messrs Darling.
Steven Renwick then recouped some of his earlier outlay when his Craig Douglas pen hit £4200 on two occassions. His first at this level was XSR1307541 a Walston Rambo son out of an Allanfauld Pharaoh sired dam. This one sold to Messrs Fisher, Pennyhead.
Steven’s second at this price was XSR 1307541. This son of Ettrick Tam O Shanter is out of a Castleknowe Matchmaker sired dam and was knocked down to Cumbria-based Thomas and James Whiteford, Tercrosset.
Peter and Lynn Gray then sold two at £4000, with the first of these being another Foyleview Superstar son out of a dam by Midlock Lucky Strike. He sold to Lilburn Estates, Northumberland.
Following on and also making £4000 was the Teiglum Thunder son GLH1304091. He is out of a dam by Douganhill Monarch and sold to Messrs Buckle, Yorkshire.
The third from this pen to sell at £4000 was GLH1304047, a Foyle View Superstar son out of a Douganhill Monarch sired dam. He was purchased by Messrs Watkins, Oswestry.
The Gray’s run of 32 shearlings averaged £2449.38, with a full ET brother to their first £4000 tup trading at £3600.
John Elliot then took at £4000 bid for his best shearling of the day, a Roxburgh Shotgun Willie son bred in Matthew Prince’s Chesterfield, Derbyshire-based flock. This one sold to the Illingworth family, Glenrock.
Following on at £3800 was the best of the day from Northern Irish vendors the McAllister family, Ballymena. This one sold to the Whitefords, Tercrosset. Also selling at £3,800 for Ian Murray, was this Glenway tup, MFZ1300348, going to Will Case – Nab Point Texels.
Next best was £3600 for Messrs Jackson, Wolfclyde, selling a shearling to Messrs Connel, while making £3400 was Hartside Farms when selling a Midlock Striker son out of a dam by Sheeoch Perfection to Messrs Howells, Wales.
Early in the day Neil Harvey took a £3200 bid for the second shearling of the sale which sold to Messrs Bereford, Alnwick.
