Texel shearlings were well sought after at Kelso on Friday 14th September, with trade for the very best on offer more than surpassing the shearling trade at the major breed sales this year.

So strong was the Texel trade that the registered Texel shearlings on offer recorded an average nearly 10% above the day’s overall shearling average for all breeds present.

Leading the trade was the Langside pen of Alex and Russel Gray, Lanark, with sales at £14,000, £9,500 and £8000 among others.

The Gray’s topper, which was the top price paid for any tup at Kelso was Brackenridge Strongbow, a Teiglum Rembrandt son out of a dam by Knock Oregano. He sold jointly to Jonathan Watson, Bowsden Moor & Ted Fox, College Texels.

Second best of the day was a shearling from Ted Fox’s pen, College Special, a son of Midlock Pavarotti out of a dam by Stonefieldhill Jenson. He was bought by Stewart and Graham Oliver for the Scrainwood and Duncraig flocks, Wooler.

Then from the Langside pen at £9500 was a Rascarell Panther son selling to Messrs McAllister, Northern Ireland, for the Artnagullion flock.

And at £8000 was another Langside shearling by Panther which sold to Paul Slater, Cheshire, this one is out of a Claybury Midlander sired dam.

Selling at £5500 was one from the Wight family’s Midlock flock. This was a son of Douganhill Monarch out of a dam by Claybury Midlander and was bought by Procters Farm, Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Then at £4800 is a Texel from the Clark family’s Garngour flock. This one is by Garngour Rio and out of a dam by Courthill Lewis and sold to Paul Slater, Cheshire.

Following him at £4200 was a Livery Predator son from Donald MacGregor’s Campsie flock. This is out of a dam by Carmavy Lionheart.

And trading for £3000 was another from the Clarks’ Garngour flock. This is a Rascarell Panther son out of a dam by Teiglum Outlaw and sold to R D Rennie, Kelso.
