Kelso Ram Sale Show
The annual show of performance recorded shearling rams at Kelso Ram Sale saw Robert Laird of the Cambwell flock charged with the judging duties.
Fresh from his judging stint the previous week at the Solway and Tyne Texel Club’s sale at Carlisle Robert found his first prize winner and champion in Alex and Russel Gray’s Langside pen in the form of Brackenridge Strongbow.
This shearling with an index of 372 is by Teiglum Rembrandt and had been bought from Hugh Neil, Straven, for £800 at last year’s Scottish Club sale at Lanark.
Robert’s judgement was backed up when he sold to Messrs Redhad and Watson, Bowsden Moor, Bowsden, Berwick for £14,000, the highest price achieved by any breed at the sale.
Taking second place was one from the Clark family’s Garngour pen with an index of 277, while third was a shearling from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, with an index of 269.
Fourth place was claimed by another from the Clarks’, Garngour, again with an index of 277 and fifth place went to one from Alan Jackson, Rugley, with an index of 390.
In sixth place was one from Maurice Hardy-Bishop with an index of 349, with seventh place taken by a Cowal shearling from the Campbell family. This one had an index of 337.
The show was once again organised by Arnold Park, Drinkstone, and thanks go to Arnold for the time and effort he put in to ensuring it was once again a tremendous success.
