Dispersal Sale of the Entire Adult Portion Grey Peel Pedigree Texel Flock
The sale of the entire adult portion from the Grey Peel Texel flock attracted a top bid to 4,400gns for Borders breeder Messrs MS & C Hardy-Bishop of Jedburgh.
The Grey Peel flock is amongst the highest recorded flocks in the Texel breed with many lots on offer carrying an index of 300 and over.
Lot 65 – 4400gns
The leading price of the sale was a three shear ewe, a daughter of Cambwell Laird (LTC05507), and bred from a Cambwell Handsome (LTC01052), sired mother. She sold in lamb to Mitchellhill Paparazzi (KJM09015), who was 2nd prize winner of the 2010 Royal Highland Show. This ewe also carries an index of 392 the third highest index for an adult female ewe in the National Texel flock. She was purchased jointly by Messrs Nesbitt & Son of Darlington for their Alwent flock and Messrs Wilkinson of Aspatria for their Arkleby flock.
Following at 1,800gns was the next lot into the sale ring, a Knock bred ewe sired by Glenside Loneranger (FPG05056), and out of a 12,000gn Anglezarke Krug (SSQ04424), bred mother and going back to Muiresk and Glenside breeding lines. She sold in lamb to Knock Papoose (HAK091075), the 1st prize shearling ram at last year’s Royal Highland Show, and joins the Ettrick flock of Messrs Gray of Selkirk.
Leading the gimmer section at 1,500gns was a homebred daughter of Tophill Nockout (HPH07805). This February born entry is out of a Glenside Loneranger (FPG05056), sired mother and was in lamb to the noted Knock Papoose (HAK091075), sire. She was purchased by R & E Ladds of Kendal for their Benson Hall flock.
Selling for 1,400gns was the first ewe entry to the sale ring. This was an Ettrick bred two shear ewe by Knock Firefly (HAK99070), and carrying Baltier, Kirtle and Annan breeding through her mother’s pedigree. She sold in lamb to Mitchell Paparazzi (KJM09015), and was knocked down to A Mawson of Bootle.
Another entry purchased by Messrs Ladds of Kendal was a February 2007 born ewe sired by Antur Jenson (AAA03146). She was out of a Llanferres Ifor (BTG02059). bred dam and was carrying Cambwell Osprey (LTC083104), bred lambs. She sold for 1,100gns.
A further two entries reached the 1,000gn mark and both were purchased by JM & CE Mitchell of Tewkesbury for their Avon Vale flock. The first to sell was a gimmer by the home bred sire Grey Peel Obama (HMF08128), and in lamb to Cambwell Osprey (LTC083104). She sold with an index of 367 which is in the 1% of the Texel breed.
The other entry for Messrs Mitchell was a ewe with an index of 346. This was a Grey Peel Lear Jet (HMF05019), sired entry and out of a Haddo Ever Ready (KWJ98050), bred mother. She sold in lamb to the high indexed ram Grey Peel Rocket (HMF1000009) who carries an index of 412.
