Drinkstone Sale – 2014

High index Texels in demand at Drinkstone sale

Demand for proven high performance Texel genetics was strong at the reduction of the adult portion of the Drinkstone flock for Arnold Park at Carlisle on Monday 6 January 2014.

Heading up the price list was a 2010-born ewe which sold at 6000gns. This sale topper, PJP1000083, is a twin out of a dam by Lumbylaw Kenya and going back to Rams Glider. Sired by homebred sire Drinkstone Punt Gun she sold with an index of 444 and in-lamb to Boghouse Untouchable. She was bought by Messrs McCosh Bros, Biggar, for the Culter Allas flock.

A similarly bred gimmer took the next top call of 3500gns, with this being PJP1202907. Again by Punt Gun, she is out of another Kenya daughter and carried an index of 469. She sold again in-lamb to Untouchable and was bought by Duncan MacNiven, Glenfarg, for the Highcraigs flock.

Charles Scott, East Middle, followed that when buying a Goldies Supreme daughter at 2600gns. This gimmer, PJP1202876, also carries Punt Gun breeding, being out of a Punt Gun dam and traces back to Kenya on her dam’s side. This one with an index of 394 sold carrying to Vorn Upper Caste.

Joining the trailer back to Glenfarg with Mr MacNiven was a 2011-born ewe by Punt Gun, PJP1100005. She is out of Kenya-sired dam and sold with an indec of 442 having run with Cambwell Taurus.

Another later sold at the same money, with this one heading north to join the Fearn flock of the Scott family, Tain. This was a Gaynes Rolls Royce daughter out of a dam by Kenya, PJP100047. Sold in-lamb to Cambwell Taurus she had an index of 402.

Punt Gun breeding was to the fore again in the next high seller, when a Punt Gun daughter sold at 1500gns. This was a 2011-born ewe out of a Drinkstone Oates dam, PJP1100108. She goes back to Glider and sold with an index of 421 and in-lamb to Taurus. Buying her were A and C Watson, Cockermouth.

Messrs Scott, secured another for the Fearn flock when they paid 1300gns for a 2011-born ewe, PJP1100034. This one, by Punt Gun, is out of a Drinkstone Night Secret dam and sold with an index of 411. She was in-lamb to Goldies Supreme.

And another by Punt Gun, PJP1202941, then took the same bid when selling to Paul Philips, Kimbolton. This one is out of a Kenya dam and goes back to Goldies Godfather. In-lamb to Vorn Three Oh Oh she sold with an index of 435.

Making 1100gns was yet another by Punt Gun, PJP1000116. This one out of a Kenya dam sold in-lamb to Supreme and with an index of 431. She was bought by Steve and Sherry Richardson for the Stonebridge flock.

A trio then sold at 1000gns, with the first of these being a Drinkstone Oh So Smart daughter out of a Kenya dam. This was PJP100005. This twin sold in-lamb to Goldies Supreme and went home with A and C Watson, Cockermouth.

Second at this level was another bought by the McCosh family, PJP1100179. This East Middle Rising Sun daughter is out of a Kenya dam and sold having run with Cambwell Taurus.

And the final four figure bid was made by Robert Laird, Cambwell, when buying a Drinkstone Punt Gun daughter, PJP1202859. She is out of a dam by East Middle Oatsie and in-lamb to Drinkstone Uro Gold and with an index of 462.

Averages: 84 ewes £519.38, 88 gimmers £446.85
