Texel females sell to 2450gns at Chelford

Trade at the North West Texel Club’s sale of in-lamb females on Saturday 4 January 2014 at Chelford saw prices peak at 2450gns for an in-lamb gimmer.

Taking the sale’s top price was an entry from the Sportsmans flock of Messrs Boden and Davies. This Hen Gapel Royal Gold daughter, BGS1200541, is out of a Baltier Panther daughter and stood fourth in the pre-sale show. She sold in-lamb to 42,000gns sire Tullylagan Tonka. She sold to an undisclosed Derbyshire buyer.

Following her came a bid of 2100gns for a gimmer from the Fachell flock of Idris Morris which enjoyed a solid trade throughout. The Fachell pen leader, IF1200349, had been champion in the pre-sale show and is by Sportsmans Superstar and is out of a Fachell Nutter sired dam. She sold with an index of 227 and in-lamb to Knock Tarana. Buying this one was Jennifer Lodge, Heyworth Lodge.

Selling at 1600gns to Peter Longdin, Tickhill, Doncaster, was another from the Fachell pen, MIF1200372. This Sportsmans Superstar daughter is out of a Pennan Miracle dam and sold in-lamb to Knock Tarana.

Fourth best price of the day was a sale at 1550gns for an Ettrick gimmer from Gordon Gray which stood reserve champion in the pre-sale show. This one, GGH1202232 is sired by Ellen Valley Nightrider and out of a dam by Mitchelhill Paparazzi and sold with an index of 233 and in-lamb to Knock Topaz. Buying her was

Taking a bid of 1350gns was another Superstar daughter from Idris Morris, MIF1200375. She is out of a Craighead Hercules daughter and also sold in-lamb to Tarana. She was knocked down to Martin Furness, Buxton

Following her at 1180gns was another from the Ettrick pen, GGH1202058. She is a Foyle View Superstar daughter out of a dam by Knock Papoose and was again in-lamb to Topaz and sold with an index of 327. Taking this one home was an undisclosed buyer.

A Fresh Fields entry from Frank Rushton topped the ewe lambs at 850gns. This was RFF1200115, a triplet daughter of Strathbogie Thunder out of a dam by Summerwood Leonardo and going back to Annan Goldsmith. She sold to D Clamp, Newhall, Derbyshire.

Averages: 26 ewes £396.98, 78 shearling ewes £558.25, 15 ewe lambs 404.60
