Main NSA Sale Sees Strong Texel Demand
Commercial ram buyers were out in force at the main NSA Ram Sale, Builth Wells, on Monday 23rd September, with well fleshed Texels gaining the pick of the trade throughout the day.
It was clear from the outset that buyers were prepared to pay for quality, with a number of good prices early in the day, but sale goers had to wait until the latter part of the sale to see the highest price of the day when a shearling consigned by Isle of Man-based Danny and Paula Creer hit 8000gns.
Taking the day’s top price of 8000gns was Coolingel Thor from the Creer family, Isle of Man
The ram, Coolingel Thor, was bred by the couple’s sons, Daniel, Finloe and Thomas, in their Coolingel flock which runs alongside the Ballaglonney flock of their parents.
Thor is a son of a Ballaterson sire borrowed from fellow Isle of Man breeders Derek and Alison Kermeen, himself a Knock Pilot son and is out of a Ballaglonney Noble Lord daughter.
Buying the pick of the sale were Stephen and Caroline Williams for the Wollascott flock, Shropshire, with the ram subject to an intense bidding battle which started with a maiden bid of 5000gns and quickly climbed to the final price before the hammer fell in the Williams’ favour.
Selling at 3400gns was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show Corriecravie Tiree
Next best of the day was a bid of 3400gns for Corriecravie Tiree – JTC1200333 – from Paul Johnson, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
