A new health certificate for semen export to Brazil has recently been approved following discussions between EU and Brazilian authorities.
Henry Lewis of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium says the new certificate should be in place once a few formalities have been effected.
“Our post there, the DIT representative, Fernanda Silva, has been most helpful in achieving this. I hope that you will be able to take advantage of this development,” he added.
Texel Sheep Society chief executive John Yates added that Brazil had previously been a successful export destination for UK Texel genetics and he hoped to see further exports now the new health certificate was in place. “Previous exports have proven that British Texels perform well in Brazil, so I’d hope to see opportunities emerge for breeders in the coming months.”
