Bluegates gimmers sparkle at January Gems Sale

It was a gimmer from the Mullan family’s Bluegates flock which proved to be the highlight of the January Gems sale of in-lamb Texel females held at Ballymena on Saturday (2 January) when selling for 2000gns.

This sale leader was MUC1400226 a Carran Sutherland’s Star daughter out of a dam by Mullan Superfly and going back to the noted Douganhill McFly. Selling in lamb to a Sandelford sire which is in turn by Orrisdale Viking this one was bought by L Brown, Listillion, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Next best was a 1400gns call for another from the same home, MUC1400261, a twin born daughter of Mullan Superfly out of a Teiglum Magnum dam. She goes back to Straidarran Jack Ass and is in lamb to Kiltariff Warrior. Buying her was Neil Watson, Ballygawley, Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

2nd Highest priced gimmer from Blue Gates 

A pair then sold at 1100gns, with the first being TYC1400421, a Curley gimmer from John Trimble. This daughter of the 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado is out of a dam by Kelso Oxygen and goes back to Mellor Vale Masterpiece. She sold carrying to Millar’s Wallender and was bought by A M Sloan, Kilkeel, Co Down.

The next at this money was another Curley gimmer, this time TYC1400434, a Ballygroogan Ronaldo daughter. This one is out of a Mellor Vale Masterpiece dam which is an ET sister to the 12,000gns Curley Orlando and goes back to Hillhead Ferrari. Sold in-lamb to Knock Trident she was the choice of Mark Patterson, Crumlin, Co Antrim.

John Trimble in the ring 

Following her at 800gns was one from Bluegates, MUC1400254. This Mullan Superfly daughter is out of a dam by a Ballymarlow sire and sold in-lamb to Millcomb Vindicator. She was bought by Ken Black, Artigarvan, Strabane.

And then selling for 750gns was the best of the sale from the Ballyhivistock pen of Messrs Simpson and Calvin. This was SCY1400726, a Forkins Umar daughter out of a dam by Montalto Lovejoy and going back to Ballyhivistock Boss. Taking this one home were the Mullan family, with this gimmer carrying to Drummillar Whiskey.

Finally at 700gns was a Gruig gimmer from Adrian McCartney. This was VMA1400797, a Humeston Talent daughter out of a dam by Tamnamoney Powers and in-lamb to Bregagh Walcot. This one was knocked down to Paul O’Connor for the Drumgooland flock, Seaforde, Co Down.
